Review | Grace & Stella Dr. Pedicure Foot Exfoliating Mask

    Hi Everyone!

Today, I’ll be reviewing the Grace & Stella Dr. Pedicure Foot Exfoliating Mask. They are currently a lot cheaper on Amazon.ca than what I purchased it for in December. I think they have new packaging, so they’re probably just trying to get rid of the old stock. A few years ago, I was sent one to try. It worked so well that I decided to buy another one. You may have read my review on the Tony Moly one. If not, you can read my review).

Dr. Pedicure is an innovative foot care product that will unbelievably shed the old, dead, callused skin right off your feet. Made with the exact same 17 vegetable extracts to this day and promises to deliver the same kind of jaw-dropping results. Tired of having rough, dull feet? Reveal your feet’s youth with Dr. Pedicure.

Includes 1 pair of our Dr. Pedicure Foot Booties & 2 pieces of tape.

Regular booties fit up to size 13 US Men. Original XL fits up to size 16 US Men.

There are warnings to consult your doctor before use if you are pregnant, nursing or diabetic. Also, do not use if you have any open sores or cuts on your feet.

    Treatment

So, you put these plastic booties on for an hour. The booties have an inner lining that’s soaked in liquid/gel that contain AHAs. The instructions tell you to put the booties on and then put socks over them. Apparently the added heat will speed up the process. Once you have them on, remain seated while keeping your feet on the ground or parallel to the ground. You want the liquid to get the whole sole of your foot, so if you your feet up, the liquid will pool to your heels. I like to keep a hand towel beside me just in case.

After the hour is up, you take off the booties and wash your feet with soap and water. After you’ve washed your feet, they may look a bit pale. Not to worry, they’ll go back to your normal colour after a bit. It says the peeling will start in 6-10 days.

    Post-Treatment

After 5 days, between my toes were starting to peel and my heels looked like they were cracking. The next day, the pads of my toes and heels were peeling. It looked like I had blisters on my toes.

It was a bit uncomfortable for me once the peeling started because my feet felt really dry. I read somewhere that it’s best not to put lotion on your feet because it can interfere with the peeling process. If you absolutely must, use an oil-free moisturizer. The soles and sides of your feet will peel the most since that’s where most of the liquid is when you’re wearing the booties (gravity, duh!). The tops of my feet just look dry and flaky instead of peeling.

I like wearing socks once my feet start to peel so I’m not shedding dead skin everywhere. Ankle socks are easiest for me. Just make sure to put any socks on slowly and carefully. When I take my socks off, I do it over the garbage can as I turn them inside out to shake out the dead skin.

It’s very tempting to scrub or rub your feet (especially when you’re in the shower and your feet are wet), but don’t do it! After showering, gently pat dry. Also don’t pull off the dead skin. If it’s hanging off your foot and annoying you, carefully cut with cuticle cutters.

Hopefully by the end of this ordeal, your feet will be nice and smooth! My feet aren’t super calloused or bad to begin with, so I don’t know how well it works on someone who has really rough heels/feet.

If you decide to try a foot peeling mask, a few things to consider:

    • I think the best time to do the treatment is when it starts getting warmer (right before sandal weather) because you won’t want to wear sandals while your skin is peeling
    • The dead skin will stick to fluffy socks, so I like to wear regular ankle socks made of cotton

It's 7 days after using the Dr. Pedicure Foot Exfoliating Mask. You put these plastic booties on for an hour. Inside, they're lined with a sheet mask material soaked in liquid that contain AHAs. Google how foot peeling masks work if you want more info. After taking the booties off, you wash your feet and then it's a waiting game. After 5 days, between my toes were starting to peel and my heels looked like they were cracking. Yesterday, the pads of the toes (it looked like I had blisters) and the heels were peeling. Today, as you can see, it's peeling even more and the ball of my foot (I wish I could call it the 'Padfoot' because Harry Potter lol) has started to peel as well. You can see where the skin has peeled away on my heel looks baby smooth. If you decide to try these (can buy on Amazon), a few pointers: firstly, it warns not to use if you're pregnant or if you have a cut or open sores. It will be a bit uncomfortable for a couple days while they peel. The bottoms of your feet will peel the most because gravity, duh. I like wearing socks once they start to peel so I'm not shedding dead skin everywhere. Ankle socks are easiest for me. Just make sure to put them on slowly and carefully. Take off the socks over a garbage can. It's very tempting in the shower, but don't scrub or rub your feet. After showering, pat dry gently. Also don't peel off the dead skin. If it's hanging off your foot and annoying you, cut with cuticle cutters or something. Hopefully your feet will be super smooth at the end! My feet aren't super calloused or bad, so I don't know how well it works on someone who has rough heels. RATING: 5/5 (I've used it before so I know my feet will be super smooth after it's done peeling)

The peeling is a bit of an inconvenience and the dryness is a bit uncomfortable, but it does work (for me). If you plan to do this before a special event, I would try it in advance to see how long it takes your feet to start peeling. Then, you can do it again before your special event (maybe add a few extra days just in case).

Have you tried a foot peeling mask? If you haven’t, would you try one?

  • feb 2020 empties

    February 2020 Product Empties

    Hi Everyone!

    Here are this month’s empties!

Daiso Razors – I like these for shaving the face. They come with a plastic protector for storage.

    Repurchase? Yes.

Tarte Maracuja Eye Treatment – This cream is quite thick and I finished it a lot faster than I finished other products with the same amount.

    Repurchase? Probably not.

Good Molecules Pure Cold-Pressed Rosehip Seed Oil* – really liked this oil.

    Repurchase? Yes.

Kopari Coconut Deodorant (read my review) – I had to declutter this because my underarms got a reaction when I would use it. I think it’s the coconut. It smells nice, but it didn’t do the best job when I would work out. Of course, it is a deodorant and not an anti-perspirant.

    Repurchase? No.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser – This is a good cleanser for me to use in the morning. I sometimes use it on the body as well.

    Repurchase? Yes.

Rael Miracle Patches (read my review) – LOVE THESE! If you haven’t tried hydrocolloid patches for your acne, you need to try them! It doesn’t have to be these specific ones, but these and the COSRX ones are favourites of mine.

Repurchase? I purchase mine from Amazon (4 packs of 24). This is my second time buying 4 packs. It took me about a 8-12 months to finish all 4 packs.

Moom Aromatherapy Foot Spa Cream* – Why are all foot creams mint-scented? Not that I’m complaining. This was a nice foot cream, but I didn’t notice a huge difference in how smooth my feet felt.

    Repurchase? No.

Joico Moisture Recovery Shampoo – I like this shampoo. I wouldn’t say it’s my fave, but I haven’t gotten any reactions (when I was using a Pantene shampoo, I noticed I was getting breakouts along my hairline and I don’t use many other hair products so it was easy to narrow it down).

    Repurchase? Only on sale.

Australian Bodycare Tea Tree Oil Face Tonic* (read my review) – I enjoy tea tree oil for my acne-prone skin.

Repurchase? I would purchase more products in their Tea Tree collection (like the body wash).

Tula Acne Clearing + Tone Correcting Gel – This is a nice salicylic acid acne gel. When I first got it, I would use it every day which I realized was too often and the reason my skin was a bit red. Once I cut down to using it less frequently, it was better and still kept my skin fairly clear.

Repurchase? Tula no longer ships to Canada, but I’m sure I can find a similar acne gel with salicylic acid.

Grounded Sage Pure Amore Gel Facial Cleanser* – I didn’t love this cleanser mainly because it came I a glass jar. I prefer a pump because I don’t want to stick my wet hand into the jar and I also tend to use more.

    Repurchase? No.

Nars Velvet Matte Foundation Stick in Fiji – This wasn’t my favourite stick foundation I’ve used.

    Repurchase? No.

Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil in 09 Red Berry Glam – I wanted to try this lip oil and I won it in a giveaway. It wasn’t the shade I wanted, but I got to see if I liked the formula. I was expecting it to be more of an oil, but it’s basically like a gloss (quite sticky).

Repurchase? Maybe, but in a different shade.

Revlon Mega Multiplier Mascara – I like that this is a fiber mascara. You just have to wash it off with warm water and you don’t get raccoon eyes. Unfortunately that means it’s not waterproof if that’s what you’re after.

    Repurchase? Yes.

Sephora Solid Clean: Solid Brush Cleaner – This is a nice little thing to travel with and it comes with a little silicone pad to help get a deeper clean.

    Repurchase? Maybe.

What did you finish this month?

    Love,

  • Youth to the People Superberry Hydrate + Glow Face Oil

Review | Youth to the People Superberry Hydrate & Glow Face Oil

    Hi Everyone!

Today, I’m reviewing the Superberry Hydrate & Glow Face Oil from Youth to the People. I purchased this during the Sephora sale last year. I tried it in September and then I had a breakout (unsure if it was from the oil, my diet or something else I was using). I stopped using it and then I started using all of these other products that I wanted to review. I’ve started using it again. Keep reading to find out what I think about the oil!

This ultra-enriched, flash-absorbing face oil packed with rare super berry antioxidants that leaves skin velvety soft, hydrated, and glowing. Intensely hydrating prickly pear and squalane oil lock in moisture with the help of omega fatty acids and high levels of vitamin C.

Maqui, the most antioxidant dense fruit in the world, is combined with açaí and goji, creating a potent antioxidant elixir. Our perfected balance of jojoba and sunflower oil illuminate and revive dehydrated skin without weighing it down.

Ingredients: Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Dicapryl Carbonate, Simmondsia Chineses (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Opuntia Tuna Extract(Prickly Pear), Euterpe Oleracea Fruit Extract (Acai), Lycium Barbarum (Goji) Extract, Aristotelia Chilensis (Maqui) Fruit Extract, And Moringa Oleifera Leaf Extract , Squalane Olive, Mixed Tocopherols (Vitamin E), Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil*, Linum Usitatissimum (Flaxseed) Oil*, Borago Officinalis (Borage) Oil*, Rosa Canina (Rosehip) Fruit Oil*, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil*, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Seed Oil*, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil*, Natural Fragrance, Amylcinnamyl Alcohol, Citral, Citronellol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Hydroxycitronellal, Limonene, Linalool.

    *Certified Organic Ingredient

Youth to the People Superberry Hydrate + Glow Face Oil 1

It comes in a glass jar with a dropper (which I will be keeping after I’ve finished using it). It’s vegan, no there’s no animal testing. It doesn’t contain dimethicone, but it does have natural fragrance. It has a scent that is familiar to me, but I can’t quite place it. I think it smells like a candy I used to eat?

    RATING: 2/5

My skin doesn’t look very glowy with this oil. I just don’t think it’s worth the high price tag. My face has been very dry from the weather and it’s not providing enough hydration for me. Maybe in the spring/summer, it would be okay for my dry skin. There are other oils that I prefer that don’t have any fragrance and are much more affordable (e.g. The Ordinary, Good Molecules).

I stopped using it again and my skin is looking better. I haven’t changed any other skincare products in my routine so I know it’s this oil that’s causing the breakouts. I know it’s a waste, but I started using it on my hands and feet to finish the rest of the bottle.

I haven’t tried much from the brand, but I did like the Superfood Air Whip Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizer.

Do you love this face oil?

  • Australian Bodycare Face Tonic

First Impressions with Australian Bodycare Tea Tree Oil Face Tonic

    Hi Everyone!

Today, I’ll be reviewing Australian Bodycare’s Tea Tree Face Tonic. I received this complimentary from Calissa.

Tea Tree Oil prevents and inhibits the growth of unwanted bacteria while nourishing the skin. The face tonic restores the skin’s natural moisture balance and helps prevent skin problems by deep cleansing. It contains extract of Kakadu Plum which has a high level of antioxidant properties. The natural Tea Tree Oil prevents bacteria from clinging to the skin.

Ingredients: Aqua, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Glycerin, Triethyl Citrate, Terminalia Ferdinandiana Fruit Extract, Sodium PCA, Saccharide Isomerate, Melaleuca Alternifolia Leaf Oil (0,5%), Allantoin, Lactic Acid, Tocopherol, Sodium Citrate, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Phenoxyethanol, Linalool, Limonene

australian bodycare tea tree oil face tonic

    RATING: 4/5

I’ve been using the Face Tonic for a few weeks now and I’m enjoying it. It’s better than The Body Shop one because it doesn’t have alcohol or witch hazel in it (I think I’m allergic to witch hazel – read my blog post about it here). Instead of using it as a toner, I use it before my shower as a pre-cleanse because I’m not a huge fan of tea tree smell. I know I’m supposed to use it after cleansing, but it seems to be working for me. I’ve actually been using it on my face AND back because I’m unfortunately prone to bacne as well. It’s helped dry out my active breakouts on my back.

I would definitely consider trying their Tea Tree Oil Body Wash. I’ve used The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Oil Body Wash and that worked really well to keep my back clear.

  • dr dennis gross alpha beta pore perfecting cleansing gel

Review | Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Pore Perfecting Cleansing Gel

    Hi Everyone!

Today, I’ll be reviewing another product I received from Calissa. An Alpha Beta Pore Perfecting Cleansing Gel by Dr. Dennis Gross. It’s my first time trying the brand.

This vegan formula contains Alpha Beta® acids which lift away dead skin cells and debris while toning and smoothing skin. Willow bark, Farnesol, and Barosma Betullina help remove impurities, wash away bacteria, and decongest pores, while Snow Ear Mushroom hydrates to maintain skin’s moisture balance. Dr. Gross hand selects each ingredient and combines it with the most efficient delivery system to ensure skin receives maximum skincare benefits from the rest of your regimen.

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate, Propanediol, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Disteareth-75 IPDI, Glycereth-7 Caprylate/Caprate, Sodium Chloride, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Mandelic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Phytic Acid, Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate, Citric Acid, Farnesol, Barosma Betulina Leaf Extract, Sodium PCA, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tremella Fuciformis (Mushroom) Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Bisabolol, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Butylene Glycol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Alcohol, Sodium Phytate, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Flower/Leaf Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Flower Extract, Polyglyceryl-3 Laurate, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Sodium Hydroxide, Benzoic Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol.

I enjoy gel cleansers, so I was interested in trying this especially since it’s soap-free, sulfate free, vegan, cruelty-free.

    RATING: 3/5

It has a subtle scent that smells like aloe and a bit fruity/floral. It’s quite a thick cleanser. I have the tube and I always squeeze out too much. It’s a nice cleanser, but I will be honest and say I wouldn’t buy the full size. It’s quite expensive for a cleanser ($50 CAD for 225ml) especially when I squeeze out too much. I’d rather pay more for moisturizers, serums or eye creams.

    Love,

  • perricone no foundation serum

First Impressions with Perricone No Foundation Serum Broad Spectrum SPF30

    Hi Everyone!

Today, I’ll be reviewing a product I received from Calissa. It’s the No Foundation Serum from Perricone MD.

Perricone MD’s No Foundation Serum instantly softens imperfections and minimises the appearance of wrinkles and pores with Neuropeptides without settling into fine lines. A luxurious fluid texture leaves a semi-matte suede finish with a breathable second skin effect.

It’s really nice, the only thing about the one sold at Calissa is that it comes in 1 universal shade. The Perricone website has multiple shades, but it’s SPF20. I don’t know if the formulation is different or if it’s just a slightly lower SPF.

    RATING: 3.5/5

It wore well and it looked like skin. It has a nice, soft matte finish. By hour six, it was breaking up a little bit. I set it with the Charlotte Tilbury powder. It’s really good for someone who has dry skin like me. I don’t know how it would work on someone with oily skin. It would probably start to break up a lot sooner. I have mostly dry skin, but I do get an oily t-zone. It didn’t look cakey around my nose which was great. I prefer a more dewy look which can be achieved by mixing in a liquid highlighter. I give this specific “universal” broad spectrum serum a lower rating. If I tried a shade that matched me, I might give a higher rating.

Perricone MD replied to my Instagram review saying: We have another formula, No Makeup Foundation (vs. Foundation Serum) that we think you may like better based upon this feedback!

  • aromatherapy associates de-stress muscle gel

    First Impressions with Aromatherapy Associates

    Hi Everyone!

I received the Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Muscle Gel from Calissa.com

This best-selling body gel contains Rosemary, Black Pepper, Lavender and Ginger essential oils. After a long day at work, or an intense workout, give your aching muscles the love they need. De-Stress Body Gel instantly cools aches and pains, then warms muscles over time leaving them feeling soothed.

Apply generously and massage directly over muscles and joints before and after physical activity. Use up to twice daily. Can be used in flight to maintain circulation in ankles and legs. For optimum results follow with De-Stress Body Oil to give your body some extra TLC. TOP TIP: If you suffer with tension headaches, apply muscle gel to the back of your neck whilst at work, or on the go.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Water, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Water, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavendar) Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Melaleuca Leucadendron Cajaputi (Cajput) Oil, Parfum**, Pogostemon Cablin (Patchouli) Leaf Oil, Juniperus Communis (Juniper) Fruit Oil, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Oil, Pinus Sylvestris (Pine) Leaf Oil, Piper Nigrum (Black Pepper) Seed Oil, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Hydroxide, Citral*, Coumarin*, Geraniol*, Limonene*, Linalool*.

*Natural Essential Oil Contents **Natural Plant Extracts

I’ve used it a few times now and it’s really good. Usually I use something like Voltaren on my sore muscles. My arm was sore and throbbing one day, so I applied it and it has this cool feeling. At some point in the next couple hours the throbbing stopped. It still stinks like any muscle gel (I smell the rosemary and black pepper the most I think), but it works!! Luckily, the scent doesn’t linger. You can still smell it if you sniff your arm or wherever you applied it, but you can’t smell it from a distance. I probably wouldn’t use it on a flight. I wouldn’t want to be THAT person on the airplane.

    RATING: 4/5

It’s great, but it is on the more expensive side.

  • two goats apothecary dry shampoo

Review | Two Goats Apothecary 100% All-Natural Dry Shampoo

    Hi Everyone!

I was sent some dry shampoo from a brand called Two Goats Apothecary. They sell 100% all-natural, vegan dry shampoo. They offer four different shades of dry shampoo (two for lighter hair and two for darker hair) and they all have different scents depending on what ingredients are used. Since I have black hair, I chose Ravn.

Ingredients: corn starch, baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), activated bamboo charcoal powder, organic coffee, fir needle (abies sibirica) and peppermint (mentha piperita) essential oil

Be careful when using a tinted dry shampoo because it can transfer. I only smell the coffee and maybe hints of peppermint at times. The scent doesn’t linger after you’ve put it on. The shampoo comes in a tin and you can buy a brush for applying it. I go to the bathroom so that if I spill any, it’s not all over my rug in my bedroom. The brush does pick up quite a bit, so I tap off the excess into the lid. I would love if it came with a net/sieve like translucent setting powders. It would be a little less messy. If you don’t want to purchase the brush, they said you could use your hands. If you have an extra makeup brush lying around, you can use one of those. Their brush is similar to a flat kabuki brush. I wouldn’t use one that’s too dense.

You can definitely see that it mattifies any oily-looking hair. I’ve asked my mom to do a smell test to see if it makes my hair smell nice. She doesn’t really smell anything other than hair and oils. I’m not sure if I haven’t put enough or if that’s just how it is. Aerosol dry shampoos I’ve tried have made my hair smell really nice. I think this is a really interesting product, and I love that it doesn’t come in an aerosol can. When I wash my hair after I’ve used the dry shampoo, it smells like coffee. Since it’s a tinted dry shampoo, the water can turn gray.

    RATING: 3/5

  • skimono hand mask look fantastic box

    First Impressions with Skimono

    Hi Everyone!

I tried out the Skimono glove mask from the Look Fantastic US November 2019 Hygge box and really enjoyed it!

A revitalising serum enriched with shea butter, Aloe Vera & hyaluronic acid in an innovative glove mask.

    • Eradicates dryness
    • Restores softness
    • Refines skin texture
    • Brightens and evens skin tone

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Urea, Glyceryl Stearate, Butylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, Cetearyl Alcohol, PEG-100 Stearate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Propanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Illicium Verum (Anise) Fruit Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Dimethicone, Carbomer, Arginine, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Leontopodium Alpinum Extract, Fragrance (Parfum), Allantoin, Adenosine, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Hyaluronate, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate.

It was my first time trying a glove mask. My fingers were really dry after taking off my nail polish, so I thought I’d try it out to see how well it worked. They’re plastic gloves with an inner lining (that’s like a face sheet mask) soaked in serum. The most saturated parts of the glove were probably the fingers. After 20 minutes, it does kind of feel like when you’re in a bath/swimming pool too long. Any longer than 30 minutes, and my fingers would definitely feel pruny/wrinkly. Since there was an inner lining, the outer part of the glove wasn’t wet at all and I was able use my phone with the gloves on (bonus!). It definitely made my hands feel softer and not as dry. It’s been a few days and my hands still feel pretty soft and smooth. It would definitely be nice to put these glove masks on while doing a face mask, then you can just sit back and relax. I would definitely consider buying this one. It’s definitely on the pricey side, but they have a 4 pack available where you can get 4 for the price of 3.

    RATING: 5/5

On the Skimono website, they have other sheet masks for your face and they also sell foot masks. I’ve only tried a peeling foot mask, but their foot mask sounds like it would be very nice!

    Have you tried hand/foot masks?

    Love,

  • volition beauty strawberry c brightening serum

Review | Volition Beauty Strawberry-C Brightening Serum

    Hi Everyone!

Today I’m reviewing the Volition Beauty Strawberry-C Brightening Serum. I received this product complimentary, but all opinions are my own.

A brightening serum powered by strawberry-derived vitamin C for noticeable radiance, hydration, and even-toned skin.

Strawberries contain 14% more Vitamin C than an orange and they’re packed with antioxidants! Strawberry seed extract brightens skin and helps even skin tone, and vitamin C helps boost your skin’s collagen production for plumper, firmer skin.

Ingredients: Water, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Water, Glycerin, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Fragaria Ananassa (Strawberry) Seed Extract, Fragaria Vesca (Strawberry) Fruit Extract, Sea Water, Sodium Hyaluronate, Panthenol, 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Terminalia Ferdinandiana Fruit Extract, Propanediol, Bentonite, Picea Abies Extract, Carbomer, Aminomethyl Propanol, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Phytate, Leuconostoc Ferment Filtrate, Citric Acid, Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Iron Oxides (CI 77499)

After using this daily for over a month, here are my thoughts. I love the texture of this serum. After applying it, my skin looks dewy and fresh. Since it’s winter, I add in a few drops of facial oil. It smells a bit more like radish than strawberries to me which isn’t a big deal because strawberries might be too sweet. The smell doesn’t linger which I love. So far I’m loving this!

    RATING: 5/5

Before receiving this from Volition Beauty, I was planning to buy it. I would definitely purchase this once I finish this bottle. I prefer it over the Celery Green Cream (read my review).

    Have you tried Volition Beauty?

Designed for hardworking hands, this unique mask soothes and moisturises the hands. A unique bio-cellulose glove inspired by a multi-layered Kimono, this hand mask is saturated in a formula rich in Shea Butter, Aloe Vera and Hyaluronic Acid to promote supple and smooth skin.

Before receiving this box, I had only heard of the Nuxe oil. I’ve only tried 2 of the 6 products so far, but I really enjoyed the Skimono mask. My hands (especially the pads of my fingers) were really dry and I used the mask and they felt a lot smoother after I used it.

Have you tried the Look Fantastic Beauty Box?

  • Review | Bali Balm Lemon & Black Pepper Lip Balm

    Hi Everyone!

Today, I’m reviewing the Bali Balm Lip Balm in Lemon & Black Pepper! I received this product from Calissa.

An invigorating blend of citrusy lemon and spicy black pepper which give this luxurious lip balm its signature zing. Lemon oil is often used to rejuvenate dull skin and the aroma is said to reduce anxiety and improve mental clarity. Black pepper has a warming effect and is a natural antibacterial.

INGREDIENTS: Coconut Oil, Castor Seed Oil, Candelilla Wax, Kukui Nut Oil, Sugarcane Extract, Lemon Peel Oil, Black Pepper Fruit Oil, Lemon Myrtle Oil, Peppermint Leaf Oil, Rosemary Extract, Wheat Germ Oil, Vanilla Fruit Extract.

Calissa sells 3 other lip balm flavours: Bergamot & Grapefruit, Sandalwood & Ginger and Cinnamon & Burnt Orange. I think the Bergamot & Grapefruit One would be my fave.

The tube has a simple design. The lip balm comes in a nice, sturdy rectangular box that you can re-use. It’d be perfect to store your jewellery when you travel.

A lot of lip balms are quite colourful, so I think men might enjoy using this one since darker colours in packaging are considered masculine. The lip balm itself has a thicker formula. I have to squeeze it harder than my Jouer or Laneige lip balm. I think this is good because if you have this in your purse, it’s less likely to ooze out if it’s squeezed. The lemon and black pepper has a fresh, yet a little spicy scent. I don’t know if it’s black pepper or if it’s the peppermint that gives it a bit of a kick. The balm gives a sheen to the lips, but not too glossy. When you apply it, you can feel a little tingle, but it goes away after a while.

    RATING: 3.5/5

I find lemon-scented products can easily smell like a kitchen cleaner. So, I don’t love this one, but I think I’d enjoy the bergamot & grapefruit one. This is on the pricier side of lip balms, but it’s free of mineral oil, beeswax and fragrances.

  • First Impressions with Revlon Salon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer

    Hi Everyone!

Today, I’m reviewing the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer that was sent to me for review.

The Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer is a designed Hot Air Brush to deliver gorgeous volume and brilliant shine in a single step. The unique oval brush design smooth hair while the rounded edges quickly create volume at the root and beautifully full-bodied curls at the ends in a single pass, for salon blowouts at home.

Designed with Nylon Pin & Tufted Bristles for detangling, improved volume and control. 1100-Watt power provides just the right heat. Unlike conventional hair dryers, this volumizer can be placed closer to the scalp for lift. 3 Heat/Speed Settings for Styling Flexibility. Built with a genuine ION generator to promote faster drying and create styles full of shinier and healthier-looking hair. Ceramic Coating helps protect hair from over-styling with even heat distribution that penetrates hair quickly and dries from the inside out.

A quick fact about my hair: it’s straight and doesn’t hold a curl well. When I use the brush, it makes my hair look sleek, smooth and shiny. I haven’t gotten the volume that I’ve seen other ladies get from using this brush, but that’s because I need to work on my technique. I’ve seen awesome results on people who have curly hair.

    RATING: 4/5

My initial thought when I took it out of the box was that it was big. Even though the brush is fairly lightweight, it does get heavy after a while. Since the brush part is lighter, it’s not perfectly balanced. Even though the handle is curved to fit in your hand easily, I feel like it’s still a bit big for people with smaller hands. I’d say my hands are average-sized. Someone with dexterity issues might have trouble gripping it. Maybe a silicone grip could be useful.

Sometimes when I use a round brush, I get it tangled in my hair. I haven’t gotten my hair tangled in the Revlon brush at all…yay! I probably wouldn’t travel with it because I’d be worried about the bristles getting squished. It would be nice if it came with some sort of protective hard case. I’m worried that over time the bristles will bend because I store it sideways.

I’ve found that the best way to use it is with slightly damp hair. You don’t want your hair dripping wet. The brush easily detangles hair, but I like to comb my hair out with a brush before I start using it.

Update: I’ve cut my hair short – now it hits my collarbone. When I first used the hair tool, it was a few inches longer. I like the hair tool a lot more now that my hair is short.

Whether you want a sleek, straight hair look or a salon-like blowout, this is a great tool. On the Revlon website, it comes in 3 different colours (pink, mint and teal) and if an oval brush isn’t your thing, they also have one that’s like a paddle brush.

  • Review | Dr. Jackson’s Night Cream

    Hi Everyone!

Today, I’m reviewing Dr. Jackson’s Night Cream. A product I received from Calissa.

Overloaded with leading botanical ingredients, Dr Jackson’s 02 Night Cream is intensely moisturising in order to hydrate and soften your skin. The calming aroma will help you to gradually drift off as your skin is enriched whilst you sleep.

The replenishing combination of baobab seed oil, mango seed butter, kigelia fruit extract and frankincense tree resin in Dr Jackson’s 02 Night Cream 30ml helps to give you a rejuvenated, glowing complexion. Kigelia fruit extract helps to firm, soothe and brighten the complexion and even out skin tone. Baobab seed oil helps to improve skin firmness and strength and to diminish the look of fine lines to reveal radiant skin. Frankincense resin calms and soothes the skin and is often recommended for the treatment of blemishes. Mango seed extract helps to protect the skin against environmental aggressors.

It comes in a black opaque glass jar and comes with a little spatula. It smells a bit woodsy and also reminds me a bit of Vick’s. It’s nowhere near as strongly scented, but just has a hint of that scent. The cream itself is quite thick – a little goes a long way.

For me, I think night creams are a bit too thick to use every day. My face has a bit of a freak out if I use a cream that’s too thick. I would prefer to use a mask a couple times a week instead of using a daily night cream that’s too heavy.

    RATING: 3/5

This would be a great cream for men (especially since a lot of men’s products come in black packaging).

  • Review | Global Beauty Care Starstruck Glitter Masking Trio

    Hi Everyone!

Today, I’m reviewing the Global Beauty Care Starstruck Glitter Masking Trio that I received from the brand. It’s a set of 3 different peel-off masks and a silicone applicator.

Blue – Age Defying (Revive, Renew, Restore with Collagen and Retinol)
Silver – Illuminating (Glow, Illuminate, Radiate with Vitamin C and Grapefruit)
Pink – Pore Refining (Minimize, Smooth, Strengthen with Aloe and Witch Hazel)

I have a love/hate relationship with peel-off masks. I love peeling them off, but I hate the waiting time for them to dry and if you don’t apply a thin, even layer, it takes ages to dry and sometimes you have to wash it off. But because it’s sticky, it’s like you’re washing glue down the drain which is bad for your pipes. I do my best to apply a thin layer, but sometimes it just applies thick. For some reason, the blue mask applied a little thicker than the other two masks. I was worried I’d scratch my face and a few times I could feel the stars as I brushed it onto my face. I had to wash off some parts of the mask because it was too thick and it was taking too long to dry and I could feel the stars scratch my face as I cleaned off the remainder of the mask.

    RATING: 2/5

I think the glittery mask is fun for a slumber party, but they are unnecessary for everyday masks. I find them to be quite gimmicky. I think it’s only because GlamGlow has those vibrant-coloured masks and other skincare brands are trying to keep up with them. (I don’t know if GlamGlow was the first, but that’s the first brand that comes to mind when I think of fun, coloured masks).

What do you think about glittery masks? Cool or gimmicky?

    Love,

*This trio was sent to me.
