• skinceuticals Blemish + Age Defense

    First Impressions with SkinCeuticals

    Hi Everyone!

Today, I’m reviewing two products I received from SkinCeuticals. I know I included these in my empties posts, but I thought I would do a separate review. I received the Blemish + Age Defense Potent Treatment for Aging Skin and Phlorectin CF. I had heard of @skinceuticalsca before, but didn’t know a lot about the brand. Their mission is to “provide advanced skincare backed by science.” Thanks to @bnation_bicom and @skinceuticalsca I get to try these two products out.

Their products come in simple packaging which I don’t mind. While it’s fun to take pictures of pretty skincare bottles, I’d rather spend my money on effective products than pretty pink/blue/purple packaging.

SkinCeuticals Blemish + Age Defense Potent Treatment for Aging Skin

    Skin Type: Oily, Combination

    Skin Concern: Acne, Aging

Blemish + Age Defense is an oil-free, targeted approach for aging and blemished-prone skin. This first-to-market acid blend uniquely combines 2% dioic acid with an optimal alpha- and beta-hydroxy acid formulation to reduce the formation of acne and clogged pores, while improving the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and uneven skin tone.

    Ingredients

    Active: Salicylic Acid 1.5%.

Inactive: Alcohol Denat., Water, Methylpropanediol, Glycolic Acid, Diisopropyl Adipate, Octadecenedioic Acid, Hydroxyethylpiperazine Ethane Sulfonic Acid, Citric Acid, Capryloyl Salicylic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Polyquaternium-10

Retails for $112 CAD on the SkinCeuticals.ca website

    RATING: 4/5

I did notice that my skin looked better while using this and it didn’t make my skin too dry or too oily. Since my skin is already dry, I made sure to use a hydrating serum with it and I only used it on my problem areas instead of using on my whole face (to save product).

I used a couple of drops morning and night. I like that it doesn’t have a scent. When you first put it on, you can smell the Alcohol in it (that’s the ingredient that’s listed first), but the alcohol smell dissipates after applying it. Unlike some other acne care products, this treatment doesn’t feel as tacky as other products I’ve tried and I like that. It’s one of the few products I’ve tried that has salicylic acid that hasn’t made my face red and/or itchy after using it. I can’t say how well it works for anti-aging since I don’t have wrinkles or fine lines. Before using this product, I have had a bit of texture on my forehead, I don’t know if it was from products I was testing out or diet (or maybe a bit of both). While I used this product, my forehead cleared up.

    Skinceuticals Phlorectin CF

Phloretin CF features a patented unique combination of 2% phloretin, 10% pure vitamin C (l-ascorbic acid), and 0.5% ferulic acid for enhanced protection against atmospheric skin aging – environmental stressor damage and premature signs of aging caused by free radicals from infrared radiation (IRA), UVA/UVB, and ozone pollution (O3). In addition to antioxidant protective benefits, Phloretin CF visibly enhances the appearance of discoloration, reduces fine lines and uneven skin tone.

    Skin Type: Normal, Oily, Combination

    Skin Concern: Discoloration, Acne, Aging

Ingredients: Aqua/water/eau, dipropylene glycol, alcohol denat., ascorbic acid, butylene glycol, triethyl citrate, phloretin, ferulic acid

Retails for $190 CAD on the Skinceuticals.ca website

    RATING: 2/5

This product isn’t really geared towards my skin type since I have dry skin. I didn’t like the smell of this one. It smelled sweet like brown sugar. It also made my face feel tacky the whole day and I didn’t notice a huge difference in my skin either. Even if this was a more reasonable price (it’s $190 CAD for 30 mL), I wouldn’t purchase because of the scent.

I think I would consider using SkinCeuticals products when I’m a bit older since they are quite expensive. I might consider repurchasing the Blemish + Age Defense serum again.

Have you tried SkinCeuticals products? Did you think they were worth the high price?

  • L’Oreal Revitalift Triple Power LZR 7-day Treatment Replumping Ampoules

First Impressions with L’Oréal Revitalift Triple Power LZR 7-day Treatment Replumping Ampoules

(F.I.L. B212104/1)

This product retails for $32.96 on Walmart Canada.

    RATING: 3/5

I was able to get 3 uses out of each ampoule (2 mornings and 1 night). Depending on how much you use, you could probably stretch it out to 2 days and 2 nights. I really liked it. My face looked nice and hydrated. It didn’t pill on me which was nice. I would definitely consider repurchasing these if it came in a bottle, but they’re quite expensive if you buy it in ampoule form (it’s almost $5 for each ampoule). Also, I don’t love how you use the tip as a plug because it was previously exposed to dust before flipping around.

Even though I enjoyed trying these ampoules, I wouldn’t repurchase because of the price. Lately, I’ve received a few L’Oréal skincare products. With so many skincare brands out there, L’Oréal isn’t really one of the top brands that I would consider. To my surprise, I have liked a few of the products I’ve tried so far (from the Revitalift collection). I’m not a huge fan of strongly scented products and some of the products I tried are a bit too much for me. I did enjoy these ampoules and the Revitalift Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Day Moisturizer Fragrance-Free. The Revitalift Hydrating Smoothing Serum and the Revitalift Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Night Moisturizer were way too fragranced for my liking.

  • Youth to the People 15% Vitamin C + Clean Caffeine Energy Serum

Review | Youth to the People 15% Vitamin C + Clean Caffeine Energy Serum

    Hi Everyone!

Today, I’m reviewing the Youth to the People 15% Vitamin C + Clean Caffeine Energy Serum.

Elevate your morning routine. This first-of-its-kind clinical-grade 15% vitamin C serum is boosted with clean, plant-derived caffeine from superleafs yerba mate and guayusa to immediately brighten, visibly reduce morning puffiness, and hydrate.

    • 15% Vitamin C Complex: Visibly brightens to reduce the look of hyperpigmentation give skin a firmer appearance
    • Yerba Mate and Guayusa (Clean Caffeine): Naturally high in caffeine and antioxidants to visibly depuff and contour
    • Passion and Dragon Fruit: High in antioxidants to help scavenge for free radicals and replenish moisture

How to Use: In the morning, apply 2-4 pumps to cleansed face and neck. Follow with Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream or Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream. With daily use, this super dose of antioxidants helps reduce the look of hyperpigmentation, even skin tone, and visibly firm.

Ingredients: Water/Aqua/Eau, 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (Vitamin C), Propanediol, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Sodium Citrate, Squalane, Triethyl Citrate, Gluconolactone, Citric Acid, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Polyglyceryl-6 Polyricinoleate, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Sodium Benzoate, Lauroyl Lysine, Passiflora Edulis (Passion Fruit) Extract, Sclerotium Gum, Lecithin, Ilex Paraguariensis (Yerba Mate) Leaf Extract, Ilex Guayusa (Guayusa) Leaf Extract, Pullulan, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C), Mannitol, Hylocereus Undatus (Dragon Fruit) Fruit Extract, Ergothioneine, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Oil, Calcium Gluconate, Silica, Potassium Sorbate

It retails for $90 CAD (1.0 oz)

    RATING: 3/5

I like that it comes in a glass container with a pump. The spout has a bit of a lip on it where the serum tends to collect and dry down. So I often have to use my finger to wipe it clean which I find a little annoying. Also, I don’t know if I have a faulty pump, but instead of pumping out smoothly (I can hear it make a sound) onto my hand, sometimes the product spurts out.

I’ve been using it for a while now and I haven’t noticed anything different in my skin. To me, it just feels like a serum which is quite expensive for $90. I haven’t noticed any pilling with the products I use, but this serum can make your face a bit tacky. Most vitamin C products I’ve tried have a citrus scent, so I was surprised when I smelled this serum. It smells like ginger, but it’s a light, pleasant smell that isn’t overpowering. Considering the price, I wouldn’t purchase this when I’m finished this bottle.

What’s your favourite Youth to the People product?

  • vichy dercos anti-dandruff shampoo

First Impressions with Vichy Dercos Anti-Dandruff Shampoo

(Code F.I.L. : C264790/1).

It retails for $19.95 CAD for 200 mL

In the past, I used to wash my hair every day, but now I try to do every other day. Sometimes I’ll stretch it to 2 days, but that’s my limit because my hair will get greasy and I tend to get headaches easily. I can easily wash hair every other day and I don’t have any dandruff, but if i stretch it to longer, the oil can build up to cause dandruff. TMI, I’m also prone to acne on my scalp (usually the back of my head), so I was hoping that this shampoo would help since it has salicylic acid and it did!

I followed the directions and tried using it twice a week (the website advises using it 1-3 times a week). So I went for twice to see. On the second time I used it, I noticed the next day that my hair was oilier than usual. I think my scalp was over compensating for the active ingredients in the shampoo. I decided to decrease to using the treatment once a week which worked best.

    RATING: 3/5

Whenever I used the shampoo, I noticed that my hair looked quite shiny (healthy shine, not oily shine) the next day, but I just don’t love the scent. It smells a bit like chemicals to me, so I would use the Vichy shampoo on my scalp and then follow up with a nice-smelling shampoo/conditioner on the ends. I wouldn’t purchase this one on my own and I  I’d rather try a different shampoo that’s not as expensive. I know Head & Shoulders shampoos have come a long way since I last tried it (probably like 10 years ago). Now they have scented shampoos instead of just the regular Original Head & Shoulders scent.

Have you tried Vichy Dercos shampoos? What are your faves?

  • klorane organic cornflower

    First Impressions with Klorane

    Hi Everyone!

Today, I’m reviewing two products from Klorane. This is my first time trying Klorane products. I know their dry shampoo is popular, but that’s pretty much all I know about the brand. After taking a look on their website, it looks like they have collections based on specific ingredients. For example, I’m reviewing products from the Organic Cornflower selection. To name a few, they also have calendula, chamomile, mango and oat products.

Scientifically proven effectiveness of our plant-based ingredients. A quality approach resulting from our pharmaceutical background, which applies to all our plants.

I received the water cream and eye patches from Topbox to try. According to their website, the Water Cream is best suited for dehydrated or tired skin. For rejuvenating skin in the morning. The eye patches help eliminate signs of fatigue (wrinkles, bags and fine lines).

Cornflower water cream with ORGANIC Cornflower and 100% plant-based Hyaluronic Acid

The Water Cream with Organic Cornflower and 100% plant-based Hyaluronic Acid moisturizes and plumps dehydrated or tired skin, leaving it refreshed and glowing.
+83% immediate hydration* thanks to the gel-like texture of the 98% natural formula.

Ingredients: Aqua, Glycerin, Propanediol, Butylene Glycol, Centaurea Cyanus Flower Water, Betaine, Sodium Dextran Sulfate, Sodium Hyaluronate, 1,2-hexanediol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Ci 42090, Caprylyl Glycol, Citric Acid, Parfum, Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Citrate.

It retails for $37 CAD (50mL) at Shoppers Drug Mart.

I was sent the tube, but it’s also available in a jar for the larger size.

The water cream has a gel cream texture that I like. It doesn’t feel too heavy on the skin and hasn’t pilled with any of my products. It smells like cornflower which is pleasant and it doesn’t linger all day once you’ve applied it. If you’re unfamiliar with cornflower, it kind of reminds me of the blue Mr. Sketch scented markers (even though that is a blueberry-scented marker). It’s possible I’m remembering wrong, but that’s what comes to mind when I smell the cream.

I know it’s more cost effective to buy the jar, but I like that the tube is more hygienic. I don’t have to dip my finger or a spatula into a jar every morning.

    RATING: 3/5

It’s a nice water cream and it’s perfect for the warmer months for my dry skin. I probably wouldn’t be able to use this on its own in the colder months. Even now, I use it with a drop of facial oil.

Smoothing and soothing eye patches with Organic Cornflower

Smoothing and relaxing eye patches with Organic Cornflower and 100% plant-based Hyaluronic Acid is a refreshing anti-fatigue treatment for eye contour area after a long day or a short night. With 99% of natural ingredients and 100% biodegradable, the new patches with hydrogel technology hydrates, smooth away fine lines, promotes decongestion and reduces signs of fatigue (dark circles, puffiness, etc). Patches with a refreshing effect for a revived look!

Ingredients: Water (Aqua)*, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride*, Glycerin*, Pentylene Glycol*, Algin*, Centaurea Cyanus Flower Water*, Sodium Hyaluronate*, Blue 1 (Ci 42090). Butylene Glycol*, Calcium Sulfate Hydrate*, Hesperidin Methyl Chalcone, Polyglyceryl-4 Caprate*, Sodium Dextran Sulfate, Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate, Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Xanthan Gum*

A box of 7 pairs retails for $35 CAD at Shoppers Drug Mart.

The patches are a pretty blue shade (not that it matters what colour they are). They look like whales to me lol. This is a minor thing that doesn’t really affect the efficacy of the patches, but it looks like they were all made in moulds that face the same way. So one of the patches won’t lie against your skin in the same way as the other (one side is flat and the other side is more rounded). You can see what I’m talking about in the second picture of patches.

I personally don’t like under eye patches. I prefer to just use an eye cream or gel. Similar to sheet masks, they can be nice to use from time to time, but I find it a hassle to do it every single day. Having to put on a mask/patches, wait 15-20 mins and then take it off. I’d rather just apply my skincare and be done with it.

    RATING: 1/5

There wasn’t enough serum in the patches to be hydrating enough after taking them off. They felt nice and cool while they were on, but there wasn’t much to tap into my under eye area after.

Overall, both products were okay, but I don’t see myself purchasing either of them on my own and I’m not curious enough to try other products from the Cornflower selection.

Have you tried Klorane products? What are your faves?

  • Tetley Tea Cold Infusions Strawberry & Watermelon

Review | Tetley Tea Cold Infusions

    Hi Everyone!

Today, I’m reviewing the Tetley Tea Cold Infusions which are “flavoured herbal tea water enhancers.”

Tetley Cold Infusions herbal infusers are specially created to be brewed in cold water. Simply drop in your water bottle (or glass or pitcher), shake or stir and go. No mess – no fuss – just great tasting water!

    There are 3 flavours available:

    • Strawberry & Watermelon
      • Ingredients: Hibiscus, Sweet Blackberry Leaves, Natural Flavours, Strawberries
    • Raspberry & Cranberry
      • Ingredients: Hibiscus, Natural Flavours, Raspberries, Cranberries
    • Mint, Lemon & Cucumber
      • Ingredients: White Hibiscus, Peppermint Leaves, Apples, Natural Flavours, Roasted Chicory Root, Cucumber

It’s great that there’s no sugar added and they’re caffeine-free. It’s definitely more convenient to infuse it in cold water. You don’t have to do the extra steps of boiling water. It’s great if you’re going out for the day and you can just throw it into your cold water.

I was sent two: Strawberry & Watermelon and Raspberry & Cranberry teas. The raspberry & cranberry had a bit of a medicinal taste that I wasn’t fond of, so I preferred the strawberry & watermelon. I think the mint, lemon & cucumber one would be refreshing, but that’s easier to make by yourself and you can control the amount of each ingredient.

I will start by saying that I’m not a huge fan of strawberry-flavoured teas. I’m a bit particular when it comes to fruity teas. I prefer mint and green teas. From Tetley, I like the Lychee Pear Green Tea and the Super Herbal Sunshine Tea – Lemon & Orange with Vitamin D.

I tried adding club soda to the teas to add some fizz, but it didn’t really do much. Actually, the fizziness overpowered it. So, I tried something else. I made it into a slushie by blending the tea with frozen strawberries and ice. I also added a splash of club soda (I think it was too much club soda the first time). It’s similar to a strawberry daiquiri. For those who are of legal age, you can add a bit of rum to make it more like a daiquiri.

    RATING: 2.5/5

Honestly, I didn’t love the flavours I tried, but I would consider trying the mint, lemon & cucumber one and any others they come up with in the future.

Have you tried the Tetley Tea Cold Infusions?

  • skincare hair empties

    May-June-July 2021 Product Empties

    Hi Everyone!

I haven’t finished many products over the past few months, so I combined three months’ worth of empties. I haven’t really touched my makeup in a long time, so I only have body, skin and hair care empties.

Rael Miracle Acne Patches (read my review) – I love these and I will continue to buy them. I like that there are only 2 sizes of patches and the plastic they’re attached to is perforated so it’s easy to peel them off nicely.

    Repurchase? Yes.

Skinceuticals Phlorectin CF* – I didn’t like the smell of this one (it smells like brown sugar or coffee?). It made my face feel tacky the whole day and I didn’t notice a huge difference in my skin either. Even if this was a more reasonable price (it’s $190 CAD for 30 mL), I wouldn’t purchase because of the scent.

    Repurchase? No.

Neogen Pore Tight Aqua Mask – I don’t really use sheet masks anymore. I’d prefer to just use moisturizers, serums or sleeping masks. This mask didn’t really align with my face well. The eye holes were really high up, so part of my forehead wasn’t covered and a lot of the sheet mask was under my chin. It doesn’t have a scent, but for some reason, it gave me a headache. It dries down tacky which I didn’t like.

    Repurchase? No.

Cerave Moisturizing Cream – I like this cream. It keeps my skin moisturized throughout the day.

    Repurchase? Yes

Dove Cool Moisture Shampoo – I like cucumber-scented shampoos. They’re refreshing.

    Repurchase? Yes

Dove Nourishing Rituals Energize Shampoo – I like the refreshing scent of the grapefruit and lemongrass.

    Repurchase? Yes.

Australian Bodycare Intim Shave Gel* – I didn’t really notice if this helped with ingrowns or any redness/razor bumps.

    Repurchase? No.

Pixi Glycolic Body Wash* – I was using this on my legs mostly. I am prone to ingrown hairs, so I think the exfoliating qualities of the body wash were helping my legs.

    Repurchase? Maybe.

What products have you finished lately?

    Love,

  • h&m style democracy warehouse sale

Style Democracy H&M Online Warehouse Sale Review & Haul?

    Hi Everyone!

I was scrolling through Instagram and the Style Democracy H&M Online Warehouse Sale came up. I took a look and ordered some things.

Originally, this post was supposed to be a haul, but it has turned into more of a review…keep reading to find out why.

I wanted to buy some loungewear because my current loungewear consists of old gym shorts and old volunteer t-shirts that I’ve received over the years. I was hoping to find some tshirts, sweatshirts and maybe some shorts or pants. I was excited because the sweatshirts looked cozy. I was also going to buy a belt for my mom, but the only ones available were thicker belts that are more for style than function. There were a few cute dresses on sale too, but

    1) I have no use for them

    2) I have too many clothes that I’ve never worn

    3) they weren’t available in my size anyway

Here’s what I ended up ordering:

The total was about $85 which isn’t too bad for 7 items. Only the sweatshirt dress and the black sweatshirt with zippers were over $10. I know I only chose basic colours, but I’m plain/neutral when it comes to my style. My closet mostly consists of black and dark blue. It said it would take 10-14 business days to process…

July 16th (13 business days later) – My friend received a shipping notification for her order. She made her order on the same day as I did.

I decided that I would wait until the 15th or 16th day before sending them an email to ask for an update on my order.

July 21st (16 business days later) – I sent them an email asking for an update.

July 26th (almost a month placing the order) – I receive an email saying that my order has been cancelled and a full refund has been issued. See below

July 30th – Paypal refund is still pending. I’ve read it could take up to a month for a Paypal refund? Also, I have yet to receive the discount coupon/free shipping for the H&M site.

Aug 4th – received full refund, but have not received the ‘discount coupon/free shipping.’

This would’ve been my first clothing purchase in a year. I haven’t bought any new clothes, I’ve only been selling my old clothes (check out my poshmark blog post). I’m not trying to complain about it since I did get a full refund, but it is disappointing that I had to wait almost a month until I got any information on my order. I know Style Democracy runs a ton of warehouse sales in collaboration with other brands, so I don’t know if it was because this was H&M’s first warehouse sale. I feel like they should have some idea of how much inventory they have. I ordered seven items and I didn’t even get a single item shipped.

When it comes to warehouse sales, it’s probably best to go to the in-person ones. As long as you’re making sure to follow all the safety protocols in place. For me, it seems like the only warehouse sales that I have had a good experience are beauty ones. I’ve been to a Nordstrom Sale and I purchased a few items. From what I remember, that was before Nordstrom was in Canada (we might’ve had a few Nordstrom Rack stores in Ontario). I’ve also been to the Designer Shoe Sale in Markham (in 2019) and also popped into a Puma one that was there too. The MAC/Estée Lauder and Shiseido Warehouse Sales were the best.

    Love,

  • true bloom HydroBloom™ Skin Rejuvenation Kit

First Impressions with TrueBloom HydroBloom Skin Rejuvenation Kit

    Hi Everyone!

Today, I’ll be sharing my first impressions review of a gadget from a brand called TrueBloom.

Hydrodermabrasion combines a 2 stage process into one quick and easy treatment for clearer and healthier skin.
Stage 1 is the Detox and Exfoliation process. The warm water polishes and deeply cleanses your skin while the strong yet gentle vacuum unclogs your pores and removes toxins from your skin!
Stage 2 is the Revitalization and Brightening process. The vacuum suction increases blood flow, triggering natural collagen production while stimulating new cell growth.
Collagen is the essential protein which provides the elasticity in the skin, helping your skin look and feel young and healthy.

    • Easy 5 Minute Weekly Treatment
    • Sucks Dirt & Makeup From your Face
    • Unclog Pores, Remove Blackheads & Whiteheads
    • Stimulates Anti-Ageing Via Collagen Production
    • Improve Skin Tone & Texture
    • Reduces Wrinkles & Fine Lines
    • Suitable For All Skin Types
    • true bloom HydroBloom™ Skin Rejuvenation Kit

I’ve always been curious about these types of devices. You put warm water into the device which cleanses the skin while the vacuum removes toxins and unclogs skin. The vacuum is meant to increase blood flow and stimulate new cell growth. The device comes with 6 different attachments – 3 silicone ones and 3 hard plastic (different sizes for each). The instructions in the box aren’t the most coherent, but it gets the message across.

The suction on this device is very strong and I’m a bit concerned about it causing bruising on the more sensitive areas of my face. I made sure to read instructions carefully before using it. I tested it out on my arm to see how strong the suction was and it got a bit red. After a while it went away, so I tried it out on my face. I got a red mark on my forehead and jawline which stayed there for the rest of the night. On the website, there’s before and after shots of the water. There’s one compartment for the clean water and another for where the water goes after. I’ve seen the water look cloudy and kind of yellow in some pictures. I’m assuming the person who used it had removed their makeup with the device. When I tried it, the used water was a little cloudy and there were a few hairs in it, but I didn’t see anything else.

I’ll continue to try it out on my arms and legs just to see if it helps with blood circulation. I don’t get a lot of blackheads, but if I do, I will test it out. I’m curious to see if it’s strong enough to pull out a blackhead. For now, I will just have to test it out long-term to see if it does improve blood circulation and improve skin tone.

    RATING: 2/5

At the moment, I’m not convinced this product is necessary for your skincare routine. It feels like it’s just another gadget that I’ll use for a few months and then forget about, but we’ll see. Especially with this being gadget from a brand that’s not well-known. Maybe one from a better known brand would have a gentler suction.

Have you tried one of these gadgets?

    Love,

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Acrylates/Steareth-20 Methacrylate Copolymer, Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Glycerin, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Water, Mentha Viridis (Spearmint) Leaf Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Hydrolyzed Rhodophyceae Extract, Caffeine, Butylene Glycol, Gluconolactone, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol

The packaging is cute. I like the baby blue and the fact that it comes in a pump. There are two things I don’t love about the packaging:

    1. When you push the pump, it dispenses onto the side of bottle if you keep it upright. So I need to tilt the bottle (90°) to make sure it dispenses onto my hand.
    2. I don’t know if I’m just not strong enough, but it’d be nice if the bottle could open so that when I’m closer to finishing it, I can see how much is left.

    RATING: 3.5/5

I like that it’s a gel cleanser. There’s no added fragrance, the natural scent isn’t my favourite, but since it’s a cleanser, it’s not a big deal. I have dry skin and I tried using it out every day for a week. It didn’t make my skin feel dry. Since it has PHA (polyhydroxy acid) which is an exfoliant, I like to use it a few times a week as my night cleanser. I use about 2-3 pumps each time, So I will keep track of how often I use it to see how long it takes to finish up.

Back in high school, I had no idea what BHAs or AHAs were. I don’t even remember what I used as a cleanser, I might’ve just used bar soap and water. Just thinking about it makes me cringe. I barely had a skincare routine. I would use the same moisturizer as my mom (she has oily skin and I have dry). I wish I had been more interested in skincare when I was a teen. I only knew about drugstore brands like Clean & Clear and Neutrogena. Even then, I barely used anything.

    Have you heard of Bubble?

I’ve been using this for about two months now. I like that it comes in a tube. I’m not a fan of using a pot for eye creams, even though a lot of eye creams come like that. I think it’s cool that Good Molecules has started showing the percentages of the ingredients in their products.

I like that this eye gel doesn’t have a scent. It does have a faint smell from the ingredients, but there’s no added fragrance. I can only smell it if I sniff the tube, I can’t smell it when I’ve applied it. I like that it’s a gel so it’s not too heavy. My under eye area is still tacky even after a few hours which is probably a good thing because it means it’s keeping my under eyes hydrated. You only need a small amount, so I think this tube will last a while. I’ve been using it for two months now and I haven’t even reached half way yet. A lot of eye creams I’ve tried have given me milia. I find that eye gels have been the best for me since they’re not as heavy.

Even though it says it can be used AM/PM, I only use it in the mornings.

I don’t have any fine lines, so I can’t comment on that claim. One time after crying for a bit, my eyes got a bit puffy. I’m only mentioning it because it wasn’t like it was the usual puffiness someone would get from eating something the day before. My eyes were pretty puffy and a bit swollen looking when I went to bed. So I wanted to see how well the eye gel worked. When I woke up in the morning, the puffiness had gone down quite a bit (it was probably a mixture of a good night’s sleep and the eye gel). For my morning routine, I applied some more of the eye gel and by mid-afternoon, my eyes were almost back to normal. I haven’t noticed my under eyes being any brighter than usual. This has caffeine in it, but not so much that it makes my eyes twitch. I had this one eye cream that would make my under eye twitch every time I tried it, so obviously I had to stop using it.

    RATING: 3/5

I enjoy it and would reconsider purchasing myself. I would say it’s in the top five eye creams/gels I’ve tried. I docked a point because I didn’t notice any changes in brightening my under eyes.

UPDATE: This eventually started making my eyes twitch occasionally. After I stopped using it, my eyes wouldn’t twitch. I’ve bumped it down another point from my initial rating.

Have you tried this eye gel? What are your thoughts on it?

    Love,

  • winky lux marbleous balm

Review | Winky Lux Marbleous Balm

    Hi Everyone!

I know it’s been a while since I last posted. I will try to post more reviews this year. I’ve been trying out a few skincare products so hopefully I will have some reviews in July and August for you.

Today, I have a review for the Winky Lux Marbleous Balms.

With the tint of a lipstick and the hydration of a lip balm, Winky Lux Marbleous Balm is the ultimate hybrid. This luxe formula is enriched with superhero ingredients, including ceramides for plumping and coconut oil for softening. The unique marble design delivers a sheer wash of color for a natural, kissable pout.

Ingredients: Candelilla Cera/Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax/Cire de Candelilla, Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Octyldodecanol, Polybutene, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Polyethylene, Isopropyl Palmitate, Cera Microcristallina/Microcrystalline Wax/Cire Microcristalline, Phenoxyethanol, Parfum/Fragrance, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Ethylhexylglycerin, Ceramide 1, Ceramide 2, Ceramide 3, Ceramide 4, Ceramide 6, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Cholesterol, Glyceryl Stearate, Dipropylene Glycol, Citral, Limonene. May Contain/Peut Contenir (±): CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499 (Iron Oxides), CI 15850 (Red 6), CI 15850 (Red 7 Lake), CI 19140 (Yellow 5 Lake), CI 77742 (Manganese Violet).

It retails for $18 USD on the Winky Lux website. There are 3 shades available:

    • Giddy: Cool toned baby pink
    • Delighted: Peachy pink
    • Dreamy: Natural pink

I put Giddy in a giveaway, so I don’t have the swatch for that one, but here’s swatches for the other two shades.

    winky lux marbleous balm
    From left: Dreamy, Delighted

Let’s start with the packaging, it comes in a pretty rose gold tube with a water printed design cap. It’s really pretty and according to the Winky Lux website, each one is unique (no two tubes look alike). I really like the tube, it will be pretty to put on display after finishing them.

    RATING: 2/5

When I first opened it, I wasn’t sure how moisturizing it would be. Once it warmed up a bit from my lips, it became more emollient. Since it’s marbled, there could be more of the white swirl which can make the shade appear lighter. So you can just swatch it on your hand or lips to get rid of it. Even after doing this, the shades are still to light for my lip colour. It settles into lines and makes any chapped part of my lips look worse. It does feel a bit moisturizing, but it feels more like a lipstick than a balm. It doesn’t have a scent that smells like anything specific to me. It smells like lipstick (slightly waxy scent). The shades are too light for my natural lip colour, so it just looks unnatural. The shade, Delighted, is better than Dreamy, but I still don’t like it. It looks okay from afar, but up close, I can see how it settled into the lines of my lips. The only way I was able to make it look good was by applying some Vaseline and dabbing it on lightly, but if I’m going to apply Vaseline, I’d rather just use that instead of spending $20 on a balm.

Have you tried these balms? What did you think about them?

    Love,

*Products were gifted to me by Winky Lux.

    April 2021 Product Empties

    Hi Everyone!

Jouer Essential Lip Enhancer Balm – I’m not usually a fan of rose-scented products, but this one wasn’t too bad. It wasn’t overly sticky and it kept my lips moisturized for hours.

    Repurchase? Maybe.

Jouer Essential Hydrating Lip Oil – I started out liking this lip oil because it kept my lips hydrated for a couple hours, but the outside started getting sticky because the oil is so runny.

    Repurchase? No.

Hourglass Caution Extreme Lash Mascara – I bought one of those Sephora Favourites mascara kits with travel-sized mascaras and a coupon to redeem a full size. I redeemed this back in 2019 and never got a chance to use it. Unfortunately, it dried up a bit and I had to declutter it.

Repurchase? Maybe. I enjoyed this mascara, but it is quite expensive.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel – This brow gel was good. It kept the brows in place, but it did feel a little stiff/crunchy. I didn’t really like the size of the brush because it was huge. I would prefer a smaller brush (like the ones they have for their tinted brow gels).

    Repurchase? Maybe.

eos Organic Lip Balm Sphere in Vanilla Bean* – This lip balm irritated my lips and it’s not the first time this has happened. In the past, I tried these lip balm spheres and the same thing happened. I decided to try it out again because that was a while back, but they irritated my lips again. My lips felt super dry. I’ve seen some people talk about having an allergic reaction to this where their lips got blistered and crusty from using this balm. I stopped using before it could get to that point, but it did take a while before my lips felt smooth again. I would rather just stick to vaseline.

    Repurchase? Absolutely not.

L’Oréal Revitalift Fragrance-Free Moisturizer* – I enjoyed this cream. It wasn’t too thick, but it kept my dry skin moisturized throughout the day. I do prefer serums/creams that come with a pump instead of a pot so I don’t know if I would repurchase this one. Especially since it’s on the more expensive side for a drugstore product.

    Repurchase? Probably not.

Cerave Moisturizing Cream – I started using this in mid-January and I’ve already finished two tubes (2x57g) and a tub (539g). I kept a tube beside my desk during the day and I use the tub after showering. I have found that when I moisturize my body with it and then put clothes on, it can transfer onto your clothes. A few times, I’ve worn a black shirt and it had white on it (similar to getting deodorant on your shirt). It has been great during the winter. My skin hasn’t felt dry at all.

    Repurchase? Absolutely.

What did you finish in April?

  • March 2021 Product Empties

    March 2021 Product Empties

    Hi Everyone!

I have a few skincare empties this month!

Volition Beauty Neroli Complete Crème* – I’ve tried a handful of Volition Beauty products and this one isn’t at the top of my list. I prefer products that come in bottles instead of tubs/pots because it’s more hygienic. It did a good job of keeping my skin feeling moisturized without feeling oily. I liked that my skin didn’t feel tacky after applying it too.

    Repurchase? Probably not.

    An empty and a newbie.
If you have this eye cream, make sure to cut it open because I was able to get almost a week’s worth of cream after cutting it open.

Pixi Retinol Eye Cream* – I liked this eye cream and it lasted a while since most eye creams are 15mL or less. It’s one of the few eye creams I’ve tried that didn’t give my under eyes milia. Unfortunately, I can’t say if it worked well under makeup.

    Repurchase? Maybe.

Belif Moisturizing Eye Bomb – This is one of the few eye creams that didn’t give me milia, but it’s not one that stands out. I would prefer one that isn’t scented.

    Repurchase? Probably not.

Briogeo Be Gentle, Be Kind Banana + Coconut Nourishing Superfood Shampoo & Conditioner – I wanted to try the Briogeo shampoo and conditioner to see what all the hype was about. I decided to try the banana and coconut one even though neither of those are my favourite scents. The shampoo’s scent was fine, but the conditioner smelled more artificial to me. I found that my hair dried faster when I used this conditioner than when I use others.

Repurchase? No, but I might consider trying the Matcha + Apple shampoo and conditioner because I think I’d prefer that scent.

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water – I bought a mini 3-pack of Smashbox photo finish primers. It came with this primer water and the primerizer (my friend took the original primer). I like that it doesn’t make my face feel greasy, but it adds some hydration.

    Repurchase? Maybe.

What products did you finish this month?

    February 2021 Product Empties

    Hi Everyone!

I finished quite a few skincare products last month.

Vichy Normaderm Anti-Acne Purifying Gel Cleanser* – When I first started using this, I enjoyed it. I think I was using it too often for my skin because it started making my face feel dry from the salicylic acid. I think if I used it weekly instead of every other day, it would’ve been okay. I think I prefer to use a moisturizer or spot treatment with salicylic acid instead of a cleanser.

    Repurchase? No.

Cerave Moisturizing Cream for Normal to Dry Skin – I got a Costco pack that came with a large tub and the tube. So I use the tub for my body, and had the tube beside my desk to keep my hands moisturized throughout the day. They have been smooth and soft ever since I started using the cream daily.

    Repurchase? Yes.

Tarte Cosmetics Drink of H₂0 Hydrating Boost Moisturizer – My friend had a code to try the FabFitFun starter box, so I jumped at the chance to try. This moisturizer was actually thicker than I thought it’d be. I thought it’d be more of a gel cream, but it’s thicker than others I’ve used. Gel creams that I’ve used would glide onto my skin easily, but this one was more like a cream moisturizer.

Repurchase? I didn’t mind it, but I probably wouldn’t get it again.

The Ordinary 100% Organic Virgin Chia Seed OilI started using this a few months ago, but it had a smell to it that I wasn’t 100% sure about. I didn’t know if it had gone bad or if that’s how it smells normally. Even if it hadn’t gone bad, I wasn’t crazy about the smell. So instead of using it on my face, I started using it on my feet at night. Unfortunately, I can’t say how it worked on my face, but I think I prefer other facial oils I’ve tried anyway.

    Repurchase? No.

SkinCeuticals Blemish + Age Defense Potent Treatment for Aging Skin* – I can’t seem to find this on their website, I think they’ve renamed it to “Blemish + Age Defense Salicylic Acid ACne Treatment for Aging Skin Prone to Breakouts.” I did notice that my skin looked better while using this and it didn’t make my skin too dry or too oily. Since my skin is already dry, I made sure to use a hydrating serum with it and I only used it on my problem areas instead of using on my whole face (to save product).

Repurchase? While this did work for me, it’s quite expensive.

Burt’s Bees Lip Gloss in 040 Tulip Spring* – This had a nice berry tint to it, but I’m not crazy about the passionfruit scent/taste. I mostly used this just to finish it.

    Repurchase? No.

What products did you finish in February?

    Love,
